Offer orientation in distressing situations — and recognise your own limits.
Who it is for
Professionals, helpers and teams
Format
Individual training, small groups or in-house workshops
Practical training with a clear focus
The course combines accessible professional knowledge with examples and exercises: how to make first contact, what a brief intervention can offer and when further support is needed. Content, scope, dates and fees are tailored to your experience, questions and work setting.
- Make attentive initial contact, listen and clarify needs
- Offer orientation and stabilisation through manageable next steps and existing support
- Practise structuring a conversation and connecting people with appropriate support
- Recognise roles, responsibilities and limits; involve further help
- Consider follow-up, reflection and self-care for helpers
Examples from practice
We use fictional or fully anonymised scenarios, such as a distressing incident at work, a sudden loss or a difficult first conversation. Short role-plays and shared reflection let you practise your approach. No one needs to disclose personal distressing experiences.
Your specific questions
Individual training or tailored professional development is also possible. For reflection on specific professional cases, specialist consultation may be suitable.
Choose the appropriate setting
This is a training service, not treatment or a recognised professional qualification in emergency psychology. For an introduction without specialist experience, consider practical psychological first aid. If you need support after a distressing event yourself, you can enquire about individual support or follow-up.
The practice does not provide a 24-hour emergency service. In immediate danger, call 144.
